UCLA Email . . . For Life!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Changes to the UCLA Email policy, still under reveiw, will establish the use of email as an official means of communication for UCLA for faculty, students, and staff, in lieu of paper mailings. Assignment of a lifetime email address to each enrolled UCLA student will ensure that students receive UCLA email.

The student implementation of the email model is planned for the beginning of the 2006-07 academic year. All students will receive an email account from a campus provider (a UCLA Lifetime Email Address Provider). Students will be required to designate an official email address to which official business, intended to meet academic or administrative needs, can be sent. Any email address can be designated, although the advantages of picking an address from a UCLA Lifetime Email Address Provider will be promoted. Students control the disclosure of their email address.

A UCLA Lifetime Email Address is granted to students who have earned a degree. As an enrolled student the email address will also have an established account. After graduation, most providers will terminate the account but continue to provide lifetime forwarding. Former students will be eligible for a UCLA Logon and those who earned a degree are also eligible for a UCLA Lifetime Email Address.

At the same time, a UCLA Logon has been established which allows for the potential provision of services irrespective of a relationship with the University. This allows for a broader community of users including temporary guests, vendors, and partners. The UCLA Enterprise Directory will be the book of record for email addresses and UCLA Logons.
